Fun & Cool things to do with your home automation

Home automation can be a really fun and convenient hobby.  Convenient because it can save you energy costs, and fun because... well, it's just fun to be able to do geeky things with your home's lights and other electronic gadgets.

Here are some ideas to get your started:

• Dim your lights using your Universal Remote and an HTPC
• Dim your lights when the movie starts, just like they do in the theater. 
• Turn your Christmas lights on or off automatically
• Wire up your garage door to open remotely using your smart phone
• Limit the kid's time playing the WII/Play Station by using auto-off timers
• Lower the window shades when the movie starts
• Activate the music system when entering a room
• Text your cell phone anytime the medicine cabinet door is opened
